Last October, the new Lamezia Terme arena signed by Vittorio Grassi Architects was completed and tested.

Following the completion of complementary works in August 2024, the Lamezia Terme Sports Hall will soon open its doors to the public.

Ready to host national and international competitions, the futuristic multipurpose building is designed as a place for gathering and inclusion.

Architect Vittorio Grassi comments, “I am honored to have signed with my firm a project of such great importance for the area and the entire local community. The Lamezia Terme Palazzetto is intended to be more than just a sports center; in fact, we imagined it from the very beginning as a hub of aggregation and socialization. In an age when relationships are increasingly fragmented, I believe it is essential to offer citizens a space that represents a point of reference for the community, a valuable place in which to share values and passions, sporting but also personal. We had the opportunity to create a dynamic and inclusive agora, accessible year-round to the widest possible range of users, from schools to sports clubs, children and international competitions.”

Conceived as a multipurpose center of excellence, the facility aims to be a landmark and attraction for the entire Calabria region and the South. The strategic location, located along State Road 280 of the Two Seas, near the railway station, the airport and the A3 Salerno – Reggio Calabria Highway, ensures an excellent level of interconnection with the most important regional hubs and with a large suburban catchment area.

The futuristic Palazzetto covers an area of about 8,000 square meters – set in a total area of 5 hectares – with a maximum seating capacity of 3,500, expandable up to 4,300 for conferences and concerts thanks to the use of the parterre.

The design was conceived to fulfill precise functional criteria such as optimizing the visibility and proximity of spectators to the playing field, separation of access for spectators and athletes, and the usability of gyms and spaces for daily use, with special attention to the building’s energy and acoustic performance.

The design of this work confirms the poetics of Vittorio Grassi Architects through innovative and light architecture always aimed at the service and well-being of the community.
