THE FIRST HIGHWAY IN EUROPE WITH ENVISION PLATINUM AWARD LEVEL

“Passante di Bologna” is the first highway in Europe with the Envision Platinum Award Level
Reduction of 1350 tons of CO2 per year, 140 ha in a green ring, at the same time mitigation measure of the new road and increase by 30 ha of the public parks, 100.000 new plants.
This renovation project of the existing 13 km long highway shows how it possible to design a green infrastructure, necessary for the city and for Italy, not only applying the highest engineering standards but implementing at the same time many green design choices in order to have a sustainable infrastructure, certified by an International well known protocol.
This project is an opportunity to qualify the city and the surrounding areas with:
– Urban reforestation works, with the extension of new urban parksand agricultural parks,
– Dewaterproofing and renaturalization of brownfield areas, to achieve the restoration by sustainable solutions of the original natural and social systems,
– Improvement of the use of these areas by a sustainable mobility (cycle and pedestrian paths) reconnecting the 2 sides of the highway,
– Architectural elements and acoustic mitigations measures.
