The BOMA 45 armchair, the first product concept designed by VGA Architects for Bodema, is a small, organic, lightweight, and elegant piece of architecture with a nautical character, evoking freedom, well-being in contact with nature, and environmental sustainability. The project represents an interior design intervention conceived for residential architecture, yet perfectly adaptable to hospitality and welcoming environments. Its proportions and harmony engage with the imagination, resulting in an innovative outcome within the landscape of contemporary interiors and design.
The inspiration derives from the cross-section of a sailboat boom, reinterpreted as a holistic element and the protagonist of an original creative approach. The armchair combines high-quality materials: an FSC-certified ash wood frame from responsibly managed forests, a painted solid steel structure, recycled polyester cordage, and eco-sustainable fabrics made of 98% recycled plastic. Thanks to Italian artisanal tradition, a home interior design sensibility, and a strong focus on sustainability, BOMA 45 offers an elegant, versatile, and customizable product available in various wood types, finishes, and fabrics. It was premiered worldwide at the Salone del Mobile in Milan in the Bodema space designed by Giuseppe Manzoni, accompanied by a video project by Stefano Santamato.
