Meliá Milano, one of the city’s historic hotels, reopens following a significant restoration and redevelopment intervention involving the lobby, restaurant, and meeting rooms. The project, designed by Spanish architect Álvaro Sans together with Vittorio Grassi Architects, introduces a contemporary and functional concept tailored to an international clientele, strengthening the hotel’s role as a reference point in Milan’s hospitality architecture sector.
Part of the Meliá Hotels International group, a global leader in high-quality hospitality, the hotel on Via Masaccio now represents an evolution of haut de gamme hospitality in Milan. Located just a short distance from CityLife, the project forms part of a broader urban regeneration process, contributing to the enhancement of a strategic area through renewed architectural design.
The hotel’s transformation stems from the collaboration between the international expertise of Álvaro Sans and the design approach of Vittorio Grassi Architects.
The interior spaces are organized through architectural elements that separate functions without the use of walls, reinterpreting the original industrial-inspired layout of the building in a contemporary way. This approach expresses an evolved vision of residential architecture applied to hospitality, with particular attention to spatial fluidity and the quality of the user experience.
The project eliminates monofunctional areas, expands the conference facilities, and introduces greenery as a central design element. Internal gardens create continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces, transforming shared areas into urban oases. Natural light—enhanced by skylights and the historic crystal chandeliers—is integrated into the new concept developed by the interior design studio.
From the lobby, guests access the Mamì Restaurant, conceived as an elegant and welcoming space featuring bespoke furnishings and materials inspired by Milanese design. Adjacent to the hall, the Elyxr Meliá café unfolds as an open-plan environment where bar, restaurant, meeting, and co-working functions coexist harmoniously, confirming the integrated architectural design approach of the entire complex.
